Definitive School of Decorative Arts!

The Definitive School of Decorative Art is the largest, oldest and most unique studio in Houston and the Southwest. The school has attracted students from Alaska, Hawaii and twenty-seven different countries. Located in the middle of a design center, Definitive provides a safe environment that is spacious, clean, comfortable and with amenities that other schools do not afford. Sample finishes are beautifully framed and are in a museum like setting, not hidden away but open to anyone to view to be enticed, stimulated and encouraged.

The resident school instructors individually have more than twenty years of experience. Unlike schools utilizing non-resident guest artists to thrive or attract students, the resident staff of Definitive is always available to provide continuous in-house help and support. The staff is quite capable of teaching the techniques offered by roving guest artists.

Definitive has many professionally active student artisans in the Houston and Gulf Coast area. We at Definitive do not believe there is equity in accepting substantial fees from students for classes and then presenting ourselves as competition to them by soliciting and accepting commissions for finishing projects in the same area in which students work. Nor do we reserve select finishes for ourselves to avoid student competition; we teach everything we know. The school is often called upon to accomplish a finishing project. Such projects are referred to capable students without asking the student for a 'finders fee'. We know of no other school that does likewise.
